Church rose garden site of free evening concert

Roses and baroque music seem to go together; they’re both classics. So, what better place for a concert than a rose garden in full autumn splendor?

Saturday, Oct. 18, enjoy a special “Simply Baroque” evening concert in the rose garden at St. Joseph Marello Catholic Church in Granite Bay. Admission is free with no advanced reservations necessary.

The evening’s theme: “A Sacred Music Concert in Our Blessed Mother’s Rose Garden.”

“Enjoy an evening of baroque music featuring beloved works by Handel, Vivaldi and Bach and reflection, set against the backdrop of over five hundred rose bushes in full bloom,” say the organizers.

Pianist and harpsichordist Jason Jeffrey performs as does the brass ensemble Brassy. Also featured will be soprano Christine Cosbey, cellist Michelle Cho and flutist Sandra Betti.

Seating is limited; first come, first seated starting at 6 p.m. The concert starts at 7 p.m.

Patrons may also bring picnic blankets and stretch out on the garden’s lawn. Cheese boards and Mount St. Joseph wines will be available for purchase.

The church and garden are located at 7200 Folsom Auburn Road, Granite Bay.

Come early to appreciate the rose garden. The space will be lit for the evening to add to the ambiance. Here’s a video of the garden at twilight: https://stjosephmarello.org/blessed-mother-rose-garden
