Arboretum invites volunteers to ‘Weed Out Stress’
Weeds can be stressful – especially when they’re taking over gardens!
Here’s an opportunity to get some exercise – and get some stress relief – while helping one of our area’s major public gardens.
It’s “Weed Out Stress,” a special volunteer day activity hosted by the UC Davis Arboretum.
Set for 3 to 5 p.m Wednesday, April 1, “Weed Out Stress” is a concentrated and creative effort to tackle a common foe – weeds.
“This spring, help out the Arboretum and Public Garden by joining us to ‘Weed Out Stress’!” say the organizers. “Spring is the busiest season for weeds in the Arboretum and Public Garden, and we can use extra hands to get a handle on them! Your participation is not only a huge help in maintaining our landscapes: Research shows that spending time in nature can reduce stress and increase feelings of well-being. What a win-win!”
So, de-stress while helping these public spaces thrive.
Details on where to meet up will be emailed to registrants the day before the event, say the organizers.
Participants need no prior experience weeding – or be expert at weed identification. Team leaders will help the volunteers know what to do (and what to pull). Tools and guidance will be provided.
Wear closed-toe shoes and bring gloves. (Sun screen and a hat are also recommended.) Bring water, preferably in a refillable container.
Questions? Email Stacey Parker, the Arboretum’s Director of Public Horticulture and Engagement, at sparker@ucdavis.edu.
Volunteers are asked to register in advance. Can’t make April 1? More volunteers days are planned later this spring.
