Learn how to save seeds, save money
It’s a gardener’s go-to, money-saving strategy that dates back millennia: Seed saving.
Learn how during a free workshop, hosted by the El Dorado County master gardeners.
Set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 6, this hands-on class will be held at the master gardeners’ Sherwood Demonstration Garden in Placerville. Participants will take a guided walk through Sherwood’s many themed gardens, looking for viable seeds to harvest.
Before they start seeking seeds, class attendees will learn the basics of harvesting and saving seed, particularly from summer vegetables and flowers plus California natives.
“Join us for a leisurely stroll through the various and beautiful gardens of Sherwood Demonstration Garden,” say the hosts. “We will help you gather seeds from selected plants to take home and try in your own yard. Learn about tried-and-true seed saving techniques.”
This workshop is designed for gardeners and seed savers of all experience levels, add the master gardeners. “Class is suitable for beginner ‘seed curious’ gardeners as well as more experienced seed-savers with technical questions.”
No advance registration is required, but it is suggested so the hosts know how many people to expect. Find the link here: https://ucanr.edu/site/uc-master-gardeners-el-dorado-county/event/central-sierra-seed-saving-edc-mg
