Become a porcelain artist at ‘Paint-In’

Have you ever painted on porcelain or glass? Here’s a chance to learn how.

Instead of hosting just a display of their work, the Camellia City Porcelain Artists have turned their annual Shepard Center show into a “Paint-In.”

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11,  the public is invited to pick up some brushes and join the porcelain artists at work at the Shepard Center. Admission and parking are free.

Find out which paints work best, how to apply them and other tips. (When painting on glass, which side is the “right” side?) Also, see how this centuries-old art form has been revived and modernized by these local artists.

Porcelain painting often features scenes from nature as well as whimsy. Learn how to paint beautiful flowers or capture a comical theme.

In addition to the hands-on painting demonstrations and workshops, the club will host a large display of its members’ work. Several members will offer their work for sale, too.

A don’t-miss attraction at this show: A full-sized Christmas tree adorned with hand-painted porcelain ornaments.

Shepard Center is located at 3330 McKinley Blvd., Sacramento, in McKinley Park.
