Green Acres hosts huge ‘HouseplantFest’

It’s time to retreat from the heat – and focus on indoor gardening.

This Saturday, Aug. 16, Green Acres Nursery & Supply will host “HouseplantFest,” celebrating our indoor jungles.

Including hands-on workshops, deep discounts, expert advice and more, this special event will be held at Green Acres’ Elk Grove store from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission and parking are free; no advance registration is necessary.

“Join us for a one-day celebration of all things houseplants,” say the organizers. “Chat with our houseplant experts, enjoy event-day Hot Buys, get creative with DIY activities and discover the perfect plant to take home.”

Green Acres garden gurus will be out in force. “We’re bringing together our top houseplant experts from every Green Acres location to answer all your questions about growing and caring for houseplants,” say the hosts. “Everything from Orchid Aficiandos to Philodendron Fanatics!”

Customers will be encouraged to find a new green friend. “Fill out our Houseplant Adoption Questionnaire and let us guide you to the perfect plant match,” the hosts explain. “If you find the one, pick a pot and we’ll plant it up for free at our new Planting Bar! Plus, you’ll leave with a beginner care guide to help your new plant thrive.”

For $10, make a new copper-wire plant support – and support pups as well as plants; half of proceeds will be donated to the Sacramento SPCA.

Or create a custom terrarium; prices vary with the size.

Enter a raffle for an 8-inch Monstera ‘Albo,’ a rare variegated (and very expensive) houseplant.
