Revel in almost-fall at Open Garden Day in Fair Oaks

With the weather and the light shifting into fall mode, Open Garden Day at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center in September has a different vibe than similar events in the spring.

The summer gardens are wrapping up, with the last harvests soon. Anticipation of fall planting is in the air. It’s a great time for visitors to stroll the garden and ask the master gardeners on duty any gardening questions they might have.

Four mini talks are scheduled throughout the morning:

— 9:45 a.m., The ABC’s of Building Compost;

— 10:15 a.m., Growing Roses from Hardwood Cuttings;

— 10:45 a.m., Growing a Grapevine in a Small Space: Selection, Training and Support;

— 11:15 a.m., Pruning Blackberries and Boysenberries.

Visitors also will be able to purchase the 2026 Gardening Guide & Calendar. The price is just $12 cash or check, a bargain to have expert gardening advice at hand all year long.

The Fair Oaks Horticulture Center is at 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks, just south of Madison Avenue and the Fair Oaks Library.

This will be the Sacramento group’s final weekend Open Garden of 2025. The last Open Garden of the year is set for Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon.
