Adopt some worms and help your soil
Family-friendly and great for your soil — not to mention for promoting sustainability — worm composting is a practice worth learning. Those red wigglers produce the best soil amendment possible, and all from kitchen scraps.
Fortunately, the Sacramento County master gardeners are offering a complete class in worm composting, 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 4. The cost is $40 per person (ages 13 and up) and is worth every penny.
This class is taught by master gardeners who are vermicomposting experts — and they are a lot of fun, too. They taught me, and my worms are still productive five years later.
Each participant will take home education materials, a worm bin with bedding, a community of red wigglers, and adoption papers.
The class will be held indoors at the UCCE Office Auditorium, 4145 Branch Center Road, near Bradshaw and Kiefer roads, Sacramento.
The link to register is here. The deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 29. No refunds will be given for canceled attendance.
