Shepard Center clubs host huge fall sale

Fall is prime time for planting. That also makes it a wonderful time to get new plants as well as for planning ahead. Expert advice and some handy gadgets? Good now, too (or anytime).

Find all that and more at this weekend’s Shepard Center Fall Sale, a gathering of more than 20 garden and craft clubs that call the center home.

Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, and 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5. This huge event fills the center’s patio and main rooms. Admission and parking are free.

“This is the place to get wonderful plants, beautiful jewelry, unique crafts, as well as good food,” say the hosts. “Most clubs at the Center will have tables with their items for sale and information about joining their clubs. Most importantly, come see old friends and make new ones!”

Gardeners, bring in your dull pruning shears or other cutting tools: Stan Logan will be on site 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days to sharpen tools and drill holes in pots. Donations go to the Garden Center or the club of your choice.

Among the items offered for sale this weekend will be many kinds of plants, gardening gadgets, books, artwork, jewelry, antiques, ceramics and more. Proceeds support local club activities.

And you may find a new hobby, too; representatives will answer questions about their clubs and upcoming events.

Shepard Center is located at 3330 McKinley Blvd., Sacramento, in McKinley Park.
