Make a terrarium and help master gardeners

Bring your green thumb indoors – and help the master gardeners.

The UC Master Gardeners of Solano County are hosting a terrarium fundraiser that includes a hands-on workshop plus the sale of take-home terrarium kits.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon, the master gardeners will show how to plant a terrarium during the workshop, to be held at the UC Cooperative Extension office, 501 Texas St., Fairfield. Class fee is $40 and includes the glass container, pebbles, charcoal, soil, plants and instruction.

At that same location and time, the master gardeners will have extra terrarium kits for sale – a perfect gift for gardening friends and family. Bring cash, check or credit card.

“A terrarium is a miniature garden enclosed in glass – a tiny world of greenery you can hold in your hands or set on your desk!” explain the master gardeners. “These small, self-contained ecosystems are perfect for ferns, mosses, and other moisture-loving plants. With just a bit of light and care, they recycle their own air and water – making them beautiful, low-maintenance, and endlessly fascinating!”

Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot early, they add. Reservations are due Wednesday, Oct. 29. Register and pay here.
