South Oak Park nursery hosts end-of-fall sale

It may feel like winter, but it’s still fall – for a few more chilly days.

Celebrating this end of season is find out farms, a unique urban nursery tucked into a residential Sacramento neighborhood in South Oak Park.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, find out farms will host its “Final Days of Fall and Seed Sale.” Find deep discounts on California native plants including 25% off all manzanitas and ceanothus (California lilacs). The nursery’s excellent wildflower seed mix is half off.

Sale hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; admission is free.

“Winter Solstice is just a little over a week away. 2025 is nearly 2026,” notes founder Matthew Ampersand, while thanking find out farms’ supporters. “During this darkest part of the year, we are spending more hours indoors and this time of year lends itself to reflection. It also lends itself toward gratitude.

“From day to day, our lives are so full! Tending to the chickens and ducks, pulling weeds, sowing seeds, growing food, consulting, designing, and maintaining native plant gardens, preparing for presentations and future educational events, turning the compost pile, running the nursery, harvesting extra fruit and getting it to the local community. It’s a lot. We are busy people. But we love this work. And we are able to do it because of you. So, thank you.”

Launched in 2023, find out farms has quickly built a reputation as a source for native plants and seeds. The nursery also helps organize community compost efforts and neighborhood gleaning to pick fresh fruit for folks who need it most.

Recently, find out farms also spearheaded community beautification efforts, including planting more than 350 native shrubs and perennials (plus pounds of wildflower seeds) in Sacramento’s River District.

The nursery is open to the public on Saturday mornings. Says Ampersand, “We love our Saturday mornings chatting with (customers) about plants!”

West of Stockton Boulevard between 17th and 21st avenues, find out farms is located at 4712 Parker Ave., South Oak Park, Sacramento.
