Learn all about growing cane berries Saturday
Blackberries grow wild along our rivers, so how hard can it be to grow them at home?
The Placer County master gardeners can provide some guidance on achieving the best berry crop during their free workshop this Saturday, Feb. 21.
“Growing & Caring for Cane Fruit and Other ‘Berries’ ” will be presented from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Lincoln Library, 485 Twelve Bridges Road. The workshop will cover raspberries and other types of berries as well as blackberries.
These fruits grow on woody stems called canes. “Come learn tips on growing these delicious fruits,” the master gardeners say, “including choosing a cultivar, how and where to plant, fertilization and water requirements, and the secrets of pruning!
“This workshop will provide you with the necessary information to get you started on your journey to delicious cane berries! As a bonus, this presentation will also provide advice on growing other types of berries.”
No pre-registration is required for this workshop. For more details on Placer master gardener workshop and events, go to https://ucanr.edu/site/uc-master-gardeners-placer-county/workshops-and-special-events
