Sacramento Bonsai Club celebrates milestone
Come celebrate our city of “little trees” as the nation’s oldest bonsai society and its show reach a milestone.
On Saturday, May 2, the Sacramento Bonsai Club will host its 80th annual bonsai show and sale at the Buddhist Church of Sacramento. Show hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
Founded in 1946, this club is recognized as the oldest of its kind in the United States; likewise, this is the nation’s oldest bonsai show. The club’s motto: “Ancient art, living community.”
This special show features an exhibition of trees grown by club members. “Marvel at meticulously crafted bonsai representing years of patient cultivation,” say the hosts. “In the Suiseki display, discover the beauty of viewing stones. In live demonstrations, watch experienced artists transform trees before your eyes.”
Bonsai trees as well as pots and materials will be offered for sale. Get advice on how to make little trees thrive for decades.
The event will also include drawings for bonsai supplies and tools.
“Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or simply curious about the art of bonsai, this event offers something for everyone,” add the hosts. “Come experience the tranquility and inspiration of this art form.”
The Buddhist Church is located at 2401 Riverside Blvd., Sacramento.
