Start new year with Open Garden Day

It’s a new year (and wild winter). Your garden has issues – and you have questions that need answers ASAP.

Where to get such expert advice? From the Sacramento County master gardeners at their first Open Garden Day of 2026.

From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 10, drop by the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center in Fair Oaks Park. The gates will be open and scores of master gardeners will be at work, tending their demonstration gardens and presenting mini-seminars on popular topics.

Learn by watching and asking questions, then get inspired to tackle your own garden. That’s what Open Garden Day is meant to do.

“Get a jump on the gardening year with the first Open Garden Day of 2026 at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center,” say the hosts. “Master gardeners will be available on site from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine. Bring samples of your problem plants, bagged insects and questions to the ‘Ask the Master Gardeners’ information table.”

Mini talks will include:

  • Selecting and Maintaining Succulents;
  • Starting Seeds for the Summer Vegetable Garden;
  • Rot & Roll:  A Hands-on Adventure in Composting; and
  • Planting, Trimming and Painting Bare Root Trees for Backyard Orchard Culture.

And don’t forget the 2026 Gardening Guide & Calendar, available for just $12 including tax.

The Fair Oaks Horticulture Center is located at 11549 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks, just south of Madison Avenue.
