Find native plants at sale prices during find out farms’ spring clearance

Can we find room in our gardens for a few more native plants?

Silly question: Of course we can. Which is why gardeners around Sacramento should be aware of the Spring Clearance plant sale this Saturday, May 23, at find out farms.

“Running a small business can be tricky.  Running one that works with living things can be extra challenging!” says Matthew Ampersand, co-owner of the urban farm in South Oak Park.

“Big nurseries toss tons of plants in the dumpster and write it off as ‘spoilage.’  We simply can’t stomach the idea of that. The whole reason we sell native plants is because we want to help the environment!  And we love the plants! They’re not trash! But we have too many to tend to over the summer. …

“Well, this Saturday we are trying to keep plants from going to waste and hoping that folks will swoop up a few more native species to tuck into the ground before summer hits us hard.”

The nursery’s inventory list is here, although with the warning that it may not be up to date as of the sale. All sizes of plants will be 50 percent off,  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. No early birds please, Ampersand asks.

After May 30, the nursery will close for the summer and plans to reopen Sept. 19.

The find out farms nursery is at 4712 Parker Ave., Sacramento. Details on the farm: findoutfarms.com
