Capitol rose garden hosts International Day of Peace celebration
The beautiful World Peace Rose Garden at our State Capitol has always been an inspirational sanctuary. The site of countless Sacramento weddings and proposals, it’s also a venue for greater understanding.
Come see for yourself on Thursday, Sept. 18, as the rose garden is the site of an International Day of Peace celebration. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., special commemorations will add to the rose garden’s natural beauty. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.
Amid hundreds of roses in full bloom, this celebration highlights poems written by children locally and around the world. Among them are works by Jewish and Muslim students including children from Gaza. The Gaza students’ poems were part of a collaboration of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and International World Peace Rose Gardens.
“America is in the grip of divisiveness!” says garden co-founder T.J. David. “Do the students’ poems hold the answer to mending the fabric of our nation and the world?”
Hundreds of flags representing the world’s nations will be on display along with student artwork with the message, “All children want peace.”
Organized by International World Peace Rose Gardens, the event is sponsored by Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, University Park World Peace Rose Garden, Grupe Huber Company, United Nations Association Davis Chapter, Jinan-Sacramento Sister Cities Corporation and Interfaith Council of Greater Sacramento.
The State Capitol Rose Garden is located on 15th Street near L Street in Sacramento’s State Capitol Park.
